  • most of us can intuitively tell if a color combination is pretty or not, but it's hard to explain why or make it work for us, especially when there are restrictions like brand rules. That's why many designers work by experimenting with different colors and seeing what happens.
  • early on, we used neural networks like LSTMs, but they didn't handle bright colors well. Later, we applied a technology called GANs, which allowed us to create more natural and diverse color combinations, and now we primarily use GAN-based models.
  • Colormind used color data collected from Adobe Color and a curated palette from Dribbble as training data. By training on NVIDIA GPUs, we were able to train about 10x faster than on CPUs, and we tuned the model to produce different results by adjusting different settings.
