How do you create a system that makes money make money?

I was worried about the lack of returns for several years after I started investing. People told me that I should invest for the long term, but when I looked at my portfolio, it would go up a few percent and then go down again. I still remember what an investment advisor said to me: "Investing without a strategy is just gambling. You need a systematic approach to make money."
That's when I started studying systematic profit-maximization strategies instead of just "buying good stocks," because I realized that it's much more important to design the "system" itself, such as asset allocation, rebalancing, and tax optimization, than it is to pick individual stocks.
I think this is something that many retail investors miss: they invest based on returns alone, and often end up making less money than they think because of taxes and fees.

◉ 4. Maximize the compounding effect
- Accelerate compounding through dividend reinvestment
- Choose investment products to minimize fees
- Establish long-term investment goals and a mid-term review system
Provide an actionable, step-by-step action plan and a way to track performance.
After redesigning my asset allocation strategy with this systematic approach and implementing it for a year, I saw some really noticeable changes, most notably a shift away from "emotional investing" and toward "systematic investing.
For example, my previous pattern was to sell when stocks went down and buy when they went up, but once I implemented the rebalancing principle, it became natural for me to buy when they went down and sell some when they went up.
In particular, the tax optimization part was very effective, as I was able to improve my after-tax return by more than 20% by actively utilizing my ISA account and closing out losing stocks at the end of the year. I realized that the same investment performance can make a huge difference in how much money you have depending on how you manage it.
The other thing that surprised me was that the "magic of compounding" really started to kick in. By reinvesting dividends immediately and saving a consistent amount each month, I could feel the snowball rolling after 12 months.
Two years later, when I reviewed my entire portfolio, I realized that not only had my average annualized return improved, but my volatility had decreased significantly. The biggest asset was that I was much less stressed about investing, which gave me the mental strength to stick with it for the long haul.
If you're worried about your returns, why not focus on building an overall "profit system" instead of picking individual stocks? The small differences will compound over time and make a big difference.
