Windows 11 Introduces AI Photo Library Organization

The Microsoft Photos app allows users to search for images by name, date, or keyword, but finding specific types of images can be challenging. A new feature aims to assist by organizing photos into specific categories.

Now available to Windows 11 insiders on Copilot+ PCs, the Auto-Categorization feature sorts photos into categories such as screenshots and receipts. This is designed to save time and effort in searching through the entire photo library for a particular image.

Photos are grouped into predefined categories, currently limited to screenshots, receipts, identity documents, and notes. These categories appear in the left pane of the Photos app for easy navigation.

Using AI, the Photos app can identify images regardless of the language of any displayed text. For instance, a Hungarian passport will be categorized as 'Passport' even if the text is not in English.

To try this feature, users must sign up for the free Windows Insider Program. It is recommended to use a spare PC or virtual machine to avoid disrupting the main Windows environment.
