UK MPs Call for Pressure on US Over Tariffs Before Trump’s Visit

UK Members of Parliament have urged the government to exert maximum pressure on the US for tariff relief ahead of President Donald Trump's state visit.

The Commons Business and Trade Committee highlighted the upcoming visit as an opportunity to press the US president for the final terms of the economic prosperity deal.

In June, the UK and US signed a trade agreement reducing tariffs on car and aerospace imports, but British steel remains subject to a 25% tariff.

The committee praised the government for securing swift tariff relief for key sectors but emphasized the need for further negotiations to solidify a lasting economic deal.

US financial firms have announced £1.25 billion in investments in the UK ahead of Trump's visit, reflecting strong commercial ties between the two nations.

Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle noted the significance of these investments, underscoring the strength of the UK-US trade relationship.
