OpenAI has begun offering additional credits for its Sora AI video generation tool to power users. These extra 10 video generations are available for $4 through Apple's App Store. Currently, the company allows 30 free generations per day, but this limit is expected to decrease as OpenAI moves towards monetizing the service. Bill Peebles, head of Sora, announced these changes on X.

Peebles stated, "Eventually, we will need to reduce the number of free generations to accommodate growth, as we won't have enough GPUs otherwise, but we will remain transparent during this process."

He also mentioned that OpenAI plans to monetize by allowing entities to license their copyrighted materials, such as artwork, characters, or likenesses. Peebles wrote, "We envision a world where rights holders can charge extra for cameos of beloved characters and people." This decision comes amid a lawsuit from Cameo for trademark infringement, making it a bold move to incorporate the cameo feature as a core monetization strategy. This is the latest in a series of controversial actions related to OpenAI's text-to-video AI application.
