Most Used Artists in Midjourney AI Platform

Over the past three years, AI art has become a widespread phenomenon on the internet. Midjourney is one of the companies that contributed to this spread by offering realistic image generation models, often criticized for lacking consideration for copyright and responsible use.

Despite competition from various models like Google's Nano Banana, OpenAI's Sora 2, and Adobe Firefly, Midjourney remains strong. According to research by the AI platform Kapwing, the most used artist name in Midjourney prompts is the Czech Art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha, appearing in 230,794 prompts.

In the category of contemporary visual artists, the Chinese digital artist WLOP is the most prompted, with 166,415 uses. He is followed by Polish artist Greg Rutkowski and Taiwanese illustrator Krenz Cushart. All three are active artists, highlighting Midjourney's disregard for intellectual property.

The research indicates that Wes Anderson is the most prompted movie director, with his name used in 92,378 prompts. Among architects, Zaha Hadid is the most used, appearing in 63,103 prompts. In terms of movie franchises, Star Wars and Batman are the most used, while Akira and Naruto lead in anime usage.

The study's definitiveness is unclear, but Kapwing built a list based on over 100 keywords across eight categories. This research illustrates the extent to which artist names are used on the platform to generate images in their style.
