Microsoft Rolls Out GPT-5 Across All Platforms

Microsoft has rolled out GPT-5 across all platforms, achieving a truly universal deployment.

While GPT-5 offers some noticeable improvements in polish, detail, and helpfulness, the changes feel more like a software update. OpenAI's latest GPT-5 model promises to be the most advanced AI assistant yet, but for the millions of workers using Microsoft Copilot, the reality is more nuanced.

Microsoft announced that GPT-5 is integrated across its Copilot services, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot, and the standalone Copilot app. The update introduces 'Smart Mode,' a real-time routing system that directs tasks to either a fast model or a deeper reasoning variant based on user intent and request complexity.

GPT-5 is accessible across all platforms (web, Windows, macOS, mobile), designed to benefit Microsoft platforms with 'deeper reasoning.' GPT-5 has faced backlash since its release, with users complaining about its less conversational and more corporate tone.

Developers can handle larger-scale coding, refactoring, and agentic workflows with GPT-5 integrated into GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code. Copilot Studio users can also select GPT-5 for their agents using Smart Mode.
