Microsoft Launches Platform to Track AI Usage
Microsoft has introduced a new feature called Benchmarks to its analytics platform, enabling managers to monitor and track AI usage within their teams.
The tool also facilitates external comparisons, allowing managers to assess their AI usage against others in similar industries.
Despite some reports suggesting a plateau in enterprise AI adoption, the technology remains a significant part of the future. This new platform highlights the ongoing strong push for AI within the corporate sector.
Microsoft is rolling out Copilot adoption benchmarks, enabling managers to track and compare team usage of its flagship AI tool.
This feature, known as Benchmarks, will be integrated directly into the Microsoft Copilot dashboard within Viva Insights, the company's analytics platform.
Viva Insights already tracks employee activities and allows performance comparisons. The corresponding Copilot tool will be available to customers by the end of October.
Using Benchmarks, managers can compare AI usage both internally and externally. Internally, they can compare different cohorts within their organization based on job function and geographic region.
They can also view the number of active Copilot users and adoption rates within specific 365 applications.
Externally, managers can compare their organization's adoption rate against anonymized others in their industry. Companies can also see their metrics on 'Top 10%' or 'Top 25%' lists of similar businesses.
According to Microsoft, the tool's insights 'help adoption trends and provide broader context and new opportunities to improve Copilot engagement.'
Companies are eager to integrate AI into the workplace. Adoption can be costly, especially at an enterprise level, and tools like Benchmarks help ensure they get value for their investment.
The new platform also indicates a strong push towards AI adoption. In some cases, this can be extreme, as seen when Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong dismissed employees who failed to onboard to company AI systems within a week.
According to our 2025 Impact of Technology on the Workplace report, only 15% of businesses reported not using AI at all, compared to 34% last year. While AI usage is rising, only time will tell how beneficial it will be for businesses in the long term.
