Microsoft Adjusts Copilot in Visual Studio
Microsoft has announced an update allowing developers to reduce Copilot's suggestions. From the August 2025 update of Visual Studio 2022, developers can now dial back the assistant's helpfulness.
To minimize distractions, developers can set Copilot to wait for a pause in typing before offering suggestions, or disable automatic completions unless triggered by a keypress.
It's also possible to hide next edit suggestions and accept code completions line by line. These changes are based on user feedback.
Microsoft acknowledges that users may not want AI assistance at every turn. In Visual Studio, developers now have more control over Copilot's presence.
However, in other Microsoft products, AI assistance remains pervasive. Developers seek an environment free from constant suggestions to maintain focus.
