Meta Partners with Midjourney for Image and Video Generation
Meta has announced a collaboration with Midjourney, a startup specializing in image and video generation.
Mark Zuckerberg's Meta group continues its expansion in the AI sector. After investing in Scale AI and hiring the CEO of that startup, as well as recruiting engineers from competitors including OpenAI, Meta has now formalized a collaboration with Midjourney. This startup is known for its expertise in AI-driven image and video generation.
The partnership was announced by Alexandr Wang, Meta's new head of AI. He explained that Meta will license Midjourney's technologies for its future models and products, aiming to offer these technologies to billions of users. "This technical collaboration between our research teams is part of our efforts to partner with the best companies in the sector, whose work and expertise complement ours," he stated.
Currently, it is unclear what features will be offered through this collaboration. However, it is possible that Meta will introduce an image or video generator based on Midjourney's technologies on Meta AI, to compete with similar products from Google and OpenAI. Additionally, image and video generation could help Meta boost its advertising platform's revenue by providing new creation tools to advertisers.
Meta has not disclosed the terms of this agreement. However, it is not an acquisition or investment. "We remain an independent, community-backed research lab, with no investors, working on a staggering array of ambitious projects focused on bringing about humane futures," stated David Holz, the head of Midjourney.
