Integration, Not LLM Model, Is Copilot’s Strength
TechTarget and Informa Tech have merged their digital business efforts, managing over 220 online properties and covering more than 10,000 topics, reaching an audience of over 50 million professionals with reliable content.
The key to Microsoft Copilot's productivity enhancement lies in its access to a user's contextual data. On August 7, 2025, OpenAI launched GPT-5, but it did not meet expectations. On the same day, Microsoft's Jared Spataro announced the integration of GPT-5 into Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Despite negative feedback on GPT-5, Microsoft 365 users need not worry. The real value of Copilot lies in context, not the LLM model. Microsoft 365 Copilot delivers personalized results by accessing emails, calendars, chat messages, meeting summaries, and business documents.
While LLMs excel at understanding user intent and structuring information, they require access to user context for personalized information. 'Grounding' is the technique that allows LLMs to use current, user-specific information.
Microsoft offers various Copilot products, each using different contexts for user prompts, which can cause confusion. IT leaders should provide training to users. Microsoft should focus on providing consistent context rather than relying on the latest AI model hype.
