Google unveils new Nest smart speaker

On August 20, 2025, the 'Made by Google' event showcased a plethora of new hardware, including the new Google Pixel 10, 10 Pro, and 10 Pro Fold Android smartphones. Among these, the unannounced Google smart speaker caught significant attention.

The event was star-studded, featuring appearances by Formula One driver Lando Norris and NBA player Giannis Antetokounmpo, who used Gemini's advice to better understand each other's sports. Norris also utilized a new mini speaker.

Audio Editor Becky Scarrott described the device's appearance as 'like a HomePod mini in a Google dress with an Echo Dot ring around the bottom.' The speaker appears to possess Gemini's reasoning capabilities, suggesting it might launch as part of the Gemini for Home upgrade Google has promised.

Google hasn't released new hardware since the Google Nest Hub (2nd generation) in 2021, with the Google Nest Audio being the last prior release. Thus, a hardware upgrade is overdue, and Google seems poised to deliver one soon.
