The rollout of Gemini in Chrome begins with desktop users on Mac and Windows in the US with English settings. The AI can explain and summarize complex information on websites. Businesses will gain access through Google Workspace in the coming weeks with enhanced privacy and control options. Mobile users in the US can already use Gemini in Chrome for Android, with iOS integration announced.
Google plans to introduce 'agent functions' in the coming months to automate repetitive tasks like scheduling appointments or online shopping, allowing users to engage in other activities. These functions can be stopped at any time.
Gemini can process and summarize information from multiple browser tabs simultaneously. A new search function will enable users to find previously visited websites through natural language queries. Integration with Google services like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps occurs directly within the browser without tab switching. The AI Mode of Google Search for complex queries is accessible via the address bar.
Chrome uses Gemini Nano to detect tech support scams and plans to extend this function to other fraud types. An AI-powered system reduces unwanted website notifications by about 3 billion daily on Android devices.
Permission requests are presented more intelligently based on user preferences and website quality. Automatic password changes for supported websites are also introduced in case of security breaches.
Most features start in English in the US and will gradually expand to other countries and languages. Google positions this update as a significant step towards an AI-powered browser experience that enhances productivity and security.
