GitHub Launches MCP Server Registry

GitHub has introduced the GitHub MCP Registry, a curated collection of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers hosted on GitHub.

Launched on September 16, the registry includes MCP servers from companies such as Figma, Postman, HashiCorp, and Dynatrace. It offers developers a trusted environment to quickly find necessary tools and contribute to a more open and interoperable ecosystem on GitHub.

The registry addresses the challenge developers face in locating MCP servers scattered across various registries and community threads within the open-source ecosystem. With GitHub already hosting most MCP servers, this registry significantly simplifies the discovery, exploration, and use of these servers.

The introduction of the GitHub MCP Registry follows the recent availability of the GitHub MCP Server, which allows AI assistants to interact directly with GitHub data through structured tool interactions. MCP facilitates the integration of AI capabilities with other tools and services, enhancing the development experience by offering context-aware AI assistance.
