Gemini Expands EU-Wide with Malta MiCA License

Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, has made a significant advancement in its European expansion strategy by securing a coveted Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license from Malta’s financial regulator. This achievement places Gemini at the forefront of EU expansion, becoming the fifth crypto service provider to receive a MiCA license.

This move grants Gemini the authority to operate across all EU and EEA jurisdictions, marking a new era in regulated crypto services and setting a model for the rest of the world to follow.

The MiCA approval by the Malta Financial Services Authority empowers Gemini to offer a broad range of crypto offerings – trading, custody, staking, and more – across more than 30 European jurisdictions. This cuts through the fragmentation of national licenses and simplifies cross-border scaling.

Gemini is steadily reinforcing and expanding its regulatory authority. Earlier this year, in May, Gemini received a MiFID II license, authorizing the exchange to provide crypto derivatives to European clients.

Now, with both MiCA and MiFID II under its belt, Gemini stands out as one of the most fully compliant crypto platforms in the EU. Leveraging this regulatory foundation, Gemini has already launched tokenized stocks, which are blockchain-based representations of equities trading 24/7 and deployed on platforms like Arbitrum.
