ChatGPT Outage Reported

ChatGPT experienced a temporary outage, with users reporting that the AI chatbot was not functioning. The first outage was detected on the Down Detector site around 7:45 a.m. PT.

However, this spike quickly subsided, only to return two hours later at around 9:30 a.m. The second spike lasted from about 8:45 a.m. until 10 a.m.

The official OpenAI status page listed ChatGPT as 'experiencing issues.' Specifically, it noted 'conversation errors,' with subscriptions and the Help Center briefly going down as well.

A fix was implemented around 10 a.m., which appeared to work as reports decreased and the status changed from red to green. Due to the system's instability, we monitored it longer than usual, but it seems stable now. The AI video generator, Sora, also faced issues, but not as widespread as the ChatGPT outage.

OpenAI's largest AI model has gone down several times this year, with the most recent major incident occurring in June. ChatGPT initially went down around 7:45 a.m. Pacific before quickly resolving.

Current spikes showed over 2,000 reports on Down Detector starting around 9:30 a.m. Pacific. The official OpenAI status page still shows ChatGPT as 'experiencing issues.'

Complaints have surfaced on social media, with several posts on the ChatGPT subreddit indicating the model isn't loading or is very slow. One user posted an error message stating 'too many concurrent requests.'

After peaking at around 2,000 reports, the number of reports dropped to around 500 on DD. The OpenAI status page has not changed, and the company is investigating the issue.

OpenAI is now stating that it has 'applied the mitigation' to ChatGPT and is monitoring the model's recovery. Reports have decreased to around 200 on Down Detector.
