Charlie Brooker Expresses Concerns Over AI Script Notes
Charlie Brooker has built his TV writing career by imagining how technology might disrupt human life, and now the Black Mirror creator has voiced concerns over how AI might change writing processes.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, the British writer said that he was not worried about being replaced by AI but was concerned that notes would start being generated from 'AI animatics' of scripts.
The notion, suggested by another writer, involves feeding scripts into a machine that produces a rough animated cut of the drama, from which changes could be suggested.
Brooker told a packed audience of British television executives that 'the script basically becomes a prompt,' which worried him. However, he stressed that there would always be a demand from audiences to see stories born out of human experience.
He also teased an upcoming announcement about a new and 'very different' creation, while discussing how understanding Netflix had been about satirizing subscription models in a Black Mirror episode.
Brooker mentioned he was fortunate to cast actors like Paul Giamatti but still has to write 'begging letters' to some, noting that most consider Black Mirror a fun gig.
