Brazilian Students Recognized by Harvard and MIT for AI Project
Brazilian students have been recognized at the MIT Hacking Medicine Brazil and InterSystems Challenge for their innovative use of GenAI in health. The team, including João Pedro Maier from FGV EPPGE, Amós Nascimento and Felipe Lima Alcântara from UnB, Camille Ribeiro from Santa Casa de São Paulo, and biomedical engineers Fellipe Wander Godoy and Sophia Nickerson from Albert Einstein, developed LiverScan. This device accurately measures liver fat percentage, aiding in early diagnosis and monitoring of liver diseases.
The system employs artificial intelligence to process data and connect patients with doctors, enhancing treatment monitoring and adherence. The students will receive mentorship from experts at Harvard University and MIT Sloan School of Management and have the opportunity for incubation in the InterSystems Caelestinus 2026 program.
MIT Hacking Medicine is an international initiative that gathers professionals and students to propose innovative health solutions. The Brazilian event was held from September 5 to 7 at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in collaboration with the innovation hub Eretz.bio.
