Big Studios’ Stance on AI: DC, Marvel, Ghibli, Disney

Major studios, from comic book powerhouses to legendary animators, are articulating their positions on the rise of AI-generated creativity. At New York Comic Con, DC Comics president Jim Lee stated that the company will not support AI-generated storytelling or artwork, emphasizing that human creativity remains central to DC's future. Lee likened current AI concerns to past technological fears, asserting that genuine human emotion is the foundation of art.

Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki is a prominent voice in the AI and creativity debate, expressing strong opposition to technology that attempts to mimic human expression. Miyazaki argues that art must originate from feeling, not data, and maintains that while machines can assist, they cannot dream.

Disney and its subsidiaries are central to the industry's AI debate. The company issued a cease-and-desist letter to Character.AI over intellectual property violations. However, Disney faced criticism when Marvel's 'Secret Invasion' appeared to use AI-assisted animation. Disney defended this as an artistic collaboration using new tools.

Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg has also cautioned against the increasing use of AI in film production, acknowledging its utility in administrative tasks but rejecting AI's role in creative decisions.
