Apple considers integrating Google’s Gemini AI into Siri

Apple is reportedly exploring the integration of Google's Gemini AI into Siri to enhance its conversational intelligence. This move comes after failed negotiations with Anthropic and represents an early-stage discussion with Google to potentially boost Siri's capabilities.

While Apple has previously collaborated with third parties in its AI strategy, directly incorporating external generative AI models is unprecedented. Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, acknowledged at WWDC 2025 that the rollout of Apple Intelligence did not go as planned, and the company is now focusing on transitioning to a new architecture.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests that Apple is not fully committed to using its own architecture and models and may outsource some intelligence to third parties like Google. These discussions are in their infancy and are unlikely to impact the release of iOS 26, which includes some Apple Intelligence updates but minimal changes to Siri.

Apple and Google are already search partners, with Google as Safari's default search engine, and Apple's Visual Intelligence allowing Google searches on captured images. However, integrating Gemini into Siri would mark a significant turning point, admitting Apple's reliance on Google in the AI race.
