GitHub Introduces MCP Registry for Centralized Server Management

GitHub has introduced an MCP Registry to provide developers with a curated directory of MCP servers. This registry offers a centralized location to manage MCP servers, which are often scattered across various registries. Each server is linked to its own GitHub repository and can be sorted by GitHub stars and community activity.

According to GitHub, this registry builds trust in specific MCP servers, contributing to a healthier AI ecosystem. GitHub's recently launched MCP server is also included in the repository, allowing agents to connect with content in GitHub repositories, issues, and pull requests.

The company has been working with Anthropic to create an open-source registry that integrates with the one announced today. This project, the OSS MCP Community Registry, ensures that any server published there automatically appears in GitHub's MCP Registry. This collaboration aims to reduce duplication across registries, provide transparent metadata, and enable large-scale contributions.

Together with Anthropic and the MCP Steering Committee, GitHub is simplifying the process of discovering AI capabilities. The GitHub MCP Registry is the fastest path from idea to integration, laying the foundation for a healthier, more interoperable AI toolchain.

GitHub is making MCP servers easier to discover, explore, and use, helping developers find the right tools faster and contribute to a more open, interoperable ecosystem.
