CoreWeave and Salesforce Announce Major AI Investments in the UK
US tech firms CoreWeave and Salesforce have announced significant AI investments in the UK, coinciding with President Trump's visit.
CoreWeave, a provider of cloud computing services for AI model development, has unveiled a $1.5 billion phase of its £2.5 billion investment in AI data center capacity in the UK. This investment aims to supply AI infrastructure to labs, enterprises, the public sector, research institutions, and startups, while also creating jobs in engineering, operations, and related services.
The company is collaborating with Nvidia and Scottish data center firm DataVita to deploy Nvidia GPUs, powered entirely by renewable energy and utilizing advanced closed-loop cooling technology to reduce water consumption. Earlier this year, CoreWeave opened its first two UK data centers, marking its initial expansion outside the US.
Meanwhile, Salesforce has announced an increase in its UK investment to $6 billion through 2030. This extends its previous $4 billion five-year commitment made in 2023. The investment includes establishing the UK as its AI hub for Europe, with new R&D teams and the creation of its first AI Centre in London.
These investments are expected to drive innovation and economic growth within the UK's AI sector.
