Anthropic Offers Free AI Education Courses
This year's back-to-school season almost guarantees a new classmate: AI. The technology is now integrated into most products, making it more ubiquitous than ever. Anthropic's new education initiative aims to help students and educators embrace it.
Anthropic announced on Thursday the release of three new AI Fluency courses co-created with educators, which help build 'responsible AI skills' for teachers and students. These courses are free and available under a Creative Commons license, allowing any institution to adapt them.
This comes at a time when knowing how to use AI is becoming an increasingly in-demand skill. A LinkedIn study showed that employers prefer hiring people comfortable using AI tools.
The new courses build on Anthropic's existing AI Fluency course and are geared toward university needs. The 'AI Fluency for Educators' course helps teachers integrate AI into teaching, while the 'AI Fluency for Students' course aids students in responsibly collaborating with AI. Lastly, the 'Teaching AI Fluency' course helps educators teach AI literacy.
All courses are free, include a certificate of completion, and range from four to seven videos, each lasting between 25 and 35 minutes. Anthropic also launched a new Learning Mode in its Claude.ai chatbot and Claude Code, encouraging active collaboration with AI.
Anthropic has appointed a Higher Education Advisory Board to help shape how Claude serves higher education. The board is chaired by Rick Levin, who has extensive experience in academia and online education.
Anthropic's efforts in education are part of a broader industry push to make AI more helpful and accessible to students.
