We've all heard the phrase, "Think creatively!" so many times, but when you're asked to think creatively, your brain goes white. I used to think creativity was something you were born with, something that only geniuses had.
But then I attended a creativity workshop that changed my mind 180 degrees. The instructor said, "Creativity is like building muscle in the gym." Anyone can do it if they train consistently.
I was skeptical but curious, so I started looking for a systematic way to train creativity.

Please respond as a trainer specializing in creativity development.
** Personalized creativity training
A) Current state assessment.
- What type of creative thinking is required in [my profession/field of interest]?
- Major obstacles to creativity in your daily life
- Analyze the characteristics and limitations of your existing thinking patterns
B) Step-by-step training program
* Week 1: Awakening your observational skills (5 minute daily mission)
* Week 2: Expand your associations (brainstorming techniques)
* Week 3: Utilizing constraints (backwards thinking exercise)
* Week 4: Convergent thinking (making connections with other disciplines)
C) Practical Application Tasks
- Apply each technique to [a problem I am currently struggling with].
- Self-assessment to improve idea quality
- Designing a creative habit-building routine
Please provide specific training examples and measurable performance metrics.
The results of 4 weeks of training with this systematic approach were amazing, as I could barely come up with 3 new marketing ideas when asked for "10 new marketing ideas" at first, but later I was able to generate 30+ ideas in 20 minutes.
I've found that constraints are the most effective way to get ideas out of people, especially if you give them a challenging condition, like "reach 100 people with a budget of $100,000." I've seen firsthand that constraints bring out the best in people.
Now, I set myself a "creative mission for the day" every morning for five minutes, and it's simple exercises like "repurpose everyday objects in three different ways" and "think in reverse," but it adds up, and I've found that I naturally look at problems from different angles in my work.
If you feel like you're lacking creativity, don't expect to be a genius and start with small exercises. You'll see the difference sooner than you think!
