Gemini Home AI Outperforms Camera Playback and App

Gemini Home AI is gradually being rolled out to users, showcasing impressive capabilities in unexpected areas despite limitations in facial recognition. It has proven particularly useful in identifying animals and assisting in locating missing pets.

The system excels in searching for animal videos, allowing users to easily access footage of animals detected at specific times. For instance, during a neighborhood search for a lost dog, Gemini provided a list of videos featuring dogs passing by the house.

Through Gemini, regular visits from two raccoons and a black cat were identified. However, the video playback feature remains problematic, with issues such as Google Home app crashes and video loading failures causing inconvenience.

Additionally, the app lacks the ability to select and export timeframes, a feature previously available in the Nest app, forcing users to resort to screen captures for saving footage prior to events. These shortcomings are seen as diminishing the value of the price increase.

Gemini Home AI presents an early beta feel, raising questions about its performance and stability as it becomes more widely adopted.
