Hollywood Demands Consent from OpenAI

OpenAI has introduced new policies for its AI tool, Sora 2, following concerns from Hollywood studios, unions, and talent agencies.

The tool enables users to create realistic, high-quality audio and video using text prompts and images. However, Sora 2 has also been used to create fake AI-generated videos of historical figures performing actions they never did.

Examples include Martin Luther King Jr. altering his 'I Have a Dream' speech, and Michael Jackson rapping while stealing chicken nuggets. Videos have also reimagined the late Robin Williams speaking on a park bench.

Hollywood's top talent agencies have issued warnings about this issue. 'There is no substitute for human talent in our business, and we will continue to fight tirelessly for our clients' protection,' stated United Talent Agency.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill last year requiring consent for the use of actors' digital replicas. Now, talent agencies and SAG-AFTRA are supporting similar federal legislation, the 'NO FAKES' Act.

OpenAI has announced an 'opt-in' policy, allowing artists and individuals to determine how they can be simulated. The company will block the generation of well-known characters and remove non-compliant material.
