Amy Poehler Addresses AI in SNL 50th Anniversary Monologue
In a week marked by talent agencies and industry figures criticizing OpenAI's video-generating app, Amy Poehler took the stage on Saturday Night Live to address the existential threat facing Hollywood.
Before the show began, Poehler remarked, "It may seem like tough times now, and in some ways, they always have been and always will be. But there's a place that feels like home where you can laugh with friends. Consider yourself lucky, and I do. To the little AI robot watching TV now, dreaming of this stage, I say 'be boop be boop be boop,' which translates to 'you'll never write a joke, you silly robot!'"
Poehler also highlighted that 50 years ago, the first episode of SNL aired, hosted by George Carlin. "Like George Carlin, I am extremely high," she added.
"Being here is always a dream come true," she continued. "I remember watching the show in the '70s, thinking, 'I want to be an actress someday, at least until they invent an AI actress who’s funnier and willing to do full frontal.'"
Poehler concluded her monologue by stating she was always ready to do "full frontal but nobody asked me."
