Figma Stock Surges After ChatGPT Integration Announcement
Figma's stock saw a significant increase of over 15% on Monday, following a promotion by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman during his company's annual DevDay conference in San Francisco.
Altman highlighted the integration of Figma with ChatGPT, which boasts over 800 million monthly users. He demonstrated how third-party applications can integrate with OpenAI's Apps SDK, a software development framework.
Altman stated, 'When using ChatGPT, users can find an app by name. For instance, you could sketch a product flow and instruct Figma to turn it into a workable diagram. The Figma app will then take over and complete the task.'
The rise in Figma's stock was the steepest since its debut on the New York Stock Exchange in July. Figma has been enhancing its tools for app and website design using generative AI models from OpenAI and other providers.
Subscribers to products connected to the Apps SDK can log in without leaving their ChatGPT conversations. Altman noted that users working on products in Figma can also launch the FigJam tool to continue developing ideas. The Apps SDK is based on the Model Context Protocol, an open standard introduced by OpenAI rival Anthropic last year.
Software developers will be able to submit apps for review later in 2025. Altman mentioned that OpenAI will offer various revenue-generating opportunities through third-party integrations over time. Last week, OpenAI announced a feature allowing users to purchase products listed on Etsy through ChatGPT.
