Elon Musk’s xAI to Develop ‘Grokipedia’ as Wikipedia Rival
Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that his artificial intelligence company xAI is developing 'Grokipedia', an open-source digital encyclopedia intended to rival Wikipedia. The tech mogul has frequently criticized Wikipedia for alleged leftist bias.
The Tesla founder claimed that the new encyclopedia, named after xAI's chatbot Grok, would be a significant improvement over Wikipedia.
Musk encouraged participation in the project via a post on X, stating, 'Join @xAI and help build Grokipedia, an open source knowledge repository that is vastly better than Wikipedia! This will be available to the public with no limits on use.'
Wikipedia did not immediately respond to The Post's request for comment.
Musk's criticisms of what he calls 'Wokipedia' are not new. In 2023, he proposed buying the platform for $1 billion, contingent on changing its name to 'Dickipedia'. Last year, he criticized the site as 'broken' after it created a page titled 'Donald Trump and fascism'.
Meanwhile, Wikipedia faced renewed scrutiny online after its co-founder, Larry Sanger, appeared on Tucker Carlson's podcast, criticizing the digital encyclopedia as 'propaganda'. Sanger accused Wikipedia of a censorship campaign against conservatives and libertarians.
Sanger alleged that 'an army of administrators' blocks users with differing ideological views. He referenced Virgil Griffith's Wiki Scanner tool, which revealed CIA computers were used to edit Wikipedia pages in the early 2000s.
