Study on Ethical AI Use in Research Published Internationally
Gabriel Leal, manager of the FGV Library in Rio de Janeiro, has published an article in the Library Trends journal, edited by Johns Hopkins University, on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in research and academic writing.
The article explores how information literacy, a key competency in librarianship, can be leveraged to help students and researchers use AI tools more effectively and ethically. Gabriel highlights the responsibility of professionals in this field to aid in developing users' abilities to critically evaluate AI-generated information, recognizing biases and ethical implications.
He asserts that this discussion is pertinent not only to the role of librarians but also to the repositioning of academic libraries as spaces that contribute to forming a more aware and prepared academic community in the face of technological advancements.
