Marissa Mayer to Sell Old Startup Assets to New Venture

Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is set to close her consumer software startup Sunshine, transferring its assets to her new AI-focused venture, Dazzle. This development was initially reported by Wired, which referenced an email sent to Sunshine's shareholders.

Dazzle aims to develop an AI personal assistant, according to sources cited in the report, with all Sunshine employees transitioning to the new company.

Most of Sunshine's investors, including Norwest Venture Partners, Felicis Partners, and SV Angel, have reportedly approved the deal, as stated by Wired.

Founded in 2018, Sunshine launched with a contact management app called 'Sunshine Contacts,' which struggled due to privacy concerns. In 2024, the company expanded to include event management and photo sharing features, yet these efforts met limited success. Both applications have been downloaded over 1,000 times on the Google Play Store.

The company raised approximately $20 million in 2020 and was primarily self-funded, according to Mayer.
