OpenAI to Launch Sora Video Generator with Opt-Out Feature

OpenAI is set to release a new version of its Sora generator, which will create videos featuring copyrighted material unless rights holders opt out, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The company has begun notifying talent agencies and studios about the opt-out process and the product, which is expected to be released soon. This new process requires movie studios and other intellectual property owners to explicitly request that their copyrighted material not be included in videos created by Sora. While copyrighted characters will require an opt-out, the new product will not generate images of recognizable public figures without their permission. Separately, Wired reported that OpenAI is preparing to launch a standalone app for Sora 2, featuring a vertical video feed with swipe-to-scroll navigation similar to TikTok. Users will be able to create videos up to 10 seconds long using Sora, with no option to upload photos or videos from other sources. The app includes an identity verification feature, allowing users to confirm their likeness for use in videos. OpenAI launched the app internally last week and received positive feedback from employees. Microsoft-backed OpenAI launched Sora last December, expanding its reach into multimodal AI technologies.
