Alibaba Unveils Qwen3-Max AI Model with 1 Trillion Parameters
Alibaba Cloud has announced the Qwen3-Max model, featuring over 1 trillion parameters, just before the annual Apsara Conference in Hangzhou.
The artificial intelligence and cloud computing division of Alibaba Group Holding has launched its largest AI model to date, which rivals the performance benchmarks of leading American models. This marks the latest effort by the Chinese tech giant to close the gap with its US counterparts in the AI sector.
On Wednesday, Alibaba Cloud revealed the Qwen3-Max model with over 1 trillion parameters, ahead of its annual Apsara Conference in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province. Alibaba is the parent company of the South China Morning Post.
The Qwen3-Max model boasts enhanced coding and agent capabilities, achieving top performance across benchmarks such as domain knowledge, reasoning, coding, agent tasks, and multilingual understanding.
According to Alibaba Cloud, self-reported benchmark tests indicate that Qwen3-Max matches or surpasses the best models from both domestic and global competitors, including Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4, DeepSeek V3.1, xAI’s Grok 4, and OpenAI’s GPT-5 Pro.
While Qwen3-Max is not open-sourced, it is accessible through Alibaba’s cloud computing platform.
