Asda and Microsoft Announce Major AI and Cloud Partnership

Asda has announced a significant collaboration with Microsoft, marking one of the largest technology deals in UK retail.

This partnership aims to accelerate Asda's transition to a cloud-first operational model, leveraging Microsoft's artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. Microsoft Azure will be the backbone of Asda's digital infrastructure, enabling modernization and new efficiencies across the business.

According to the supermarket, shoppers will benefit from faster, more personalized services through advanced data analytics and developer tools like Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and Copilot Studio. Asda's Chief Digital Officer, Matt Kelleher, expressed enthusiasm about advancing their collaboration with Microsoft.

The partnership also allows Asda to adopt next-generation cloud solutions, ensuring rapid deployment of innovative services tailored to evolving customer needs. Building on a commercial relationship that began in 2022, the agreement establishes Azure as Asda's premier cloud provider.

Asda employees will have access to training programs such as the digital skills initiative offered by Microsoft. Darren Hardman, CEO of Microsoft UK and Ireland, highlighted how this collaboration exemplifies the transformative power of cloud and AI technologies in retail.

In August 2024, Asos signed a three-year AI deal with Microsoft, emphasizing its commitment to operational excellence, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making. Meanwhile, Currys was named Microsoft's first official retail repair partner in the UK last year.
