Drug Stock Worth Rs. 18.4 Million Seized at BIA

Authorities at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) have seized Kush and Hashish valued over Rs. 18.47 million from the men's restroom at the arrival terminal yesterday (20).

The discovery was made when a janitorial worker noticed several suspicious parcels inside the restroom and alerted airport customs narcotics officers.

Upon inspection, officers found 422 grams of Kush cannabis and 1.262 kilograms of Hashish concealed inside the parcels. The narcotics were subsequently taken into custody by the Police Narcotics Bureau unit stationed at the airport.

Investigations are underway by the Katunayake Airport Police Narcotics Bureau to determine the origin of the drugs and those responsible for attempting to smuggle them through the facility.
