Gemini AI Assistant Introduced in Chrome Browser
Google is leveraging its ownership of Chrome, the world's most popular internet browser, to integrate Gemini AI features, transforming it into an AI-enhanced browser. On Thursday, Google expanded Gemini's capabilities, introducing several intriguing AI features to Chrome. Users can now interact with Gemini without loading a separate app, as it can view the screen and assist with a button press.
Gemini is initially rolling out to Mac and Windows users in the U.S., with plans to extend to Android and iPhone soon. The AI assistant will help summarize web pages and provide access to data from various Google apps like Docs and Calendar. Additionally, Gemini will introduce unique features not available in other browsers.
AI Mode allows users to summon Gemini directly from the address bar, enhancing Google Search capabilities. This feature will be available later this month. Gemini can also recall websites visited previously, assisting users in finding specific information through questions.
The assistant will detect and block notification spam and scams, and offer advanced security features like detecting compromised passwords and facilitating their change. Gemini will also support web browsing and product purchasing in the coming months.
Finally, Gemini will summarize YouTube clips and locate specific content within videos, simplifying the process of rewatching or sharing particular clips from lengthy videos.
